Gosh, I am late again...maybe not surprising when you see where this post goes, So, let's check out this week's Musing from Miz B at Should Be Reading.
This week’s musing asks…
What are you currently reading? And, is it better, as good as, or worse than your last read?
At the moment, I am reading...nothing!
I just finished a book yesterday at work, Before the Poison by Peter Robinson. I knew I did not have much more of the book to read and that I would finish it, but did not bring another book, so that I would be "forced" to write the review of it before I started the next.
It did not work.
I just do not understand what my problem is writing reviews.
If you came up and asked my opinion of that book, I would have not a problem telling you. Why them do I have an issue with putting it 'to paper', so to speak...for those of you old enough to remember writing things with a pen and paper. So, I make myself these little deals, that I will not pick the next book I will read until I write the review of the last one..and then just as quickly I come up with an excuse why I shouldn't wait, just this time. Until I am at the point where I am probably 5-6 books behind at this point. Oh well.
Did I mention I am a great, I mean a world class, procrastinator?
World Class. If there was a metal for it, I would have a hulking gold one with a big blue ribbon.
I did choose my next book, The Land of Decoration by Grace McCleen. But I only read a couple of pages before the Sandman called me.And normally, since I am off work today, I would get a good bit of reading in.
But today, I must do my taxes.
Yes, the taxes that are due tomorrow.
I told you.
World Class Procrastinator, right here folks!
I always love reading your MM each week. You make them so much fun to read. I think the reason I hate writing reviews is... it reminds me to much of my school days, when writing book reviews was a requirement, along with reading the book, of course. Sometimes when we got behind in our reading we shared each others book reports. We found out we didn't have to read as many books that way. Oh the good old days of school. Of course that was 50 plus years ago. I think I am safe in sharing that little tid-bit.
ReplyDeletewhy thank you. I try. ;-)
ReplyDeleteAh, I hate tax time! I forced myself to do them in February...and it turned out better than usual.
ReplyDeleteI have to write my reviews as soon as I finish the book....even as the next one beckons. But I don't take notes when I read, (feels too much like college classes!), so I must write the review in order not to forget the details. Age? lol
Here's MY MUSING MONDAYS POST
I LOVE your reads! They sound great, I’ll have to check them out – thank you for sharing! :)

Caite I can completely relate when it comes to writing review! I don't know what it is. I can talk and talk about a book but then the minute I have to write about it I feel lost. With the book I am currently reading, I'm trying a new technique of taking notes as a go along to help me later with the review. Although, I feel like this takes away from the enjoyment of reading and makes it feel more like school. Good luck with your future reviews and with the taxes!

I tries that too. in theory great..in practice, not so much.
DeleteI'm with you and Shenell, too, when I try to write about the book I am at a loss of words. I'm going to look up your books, the covers are intriguing.
ReplyDeleteOh no- I hope you get through your review block! I sometimes feel like that...I can think my opinions fine but when I put them down on paper they sound strange!

Last week I finished ALL the Shade of Grey porn, er, novels and then I read The Chalk Girl which I finished this weekend .. I am about to begin Connelly's The Drop ...
ReplyDeletedon't mention Shades of Grey in front of Sandy. Ooops, that is just what you did...lol
DeleteThere are days when I'd rather do anything than write a review...scrub toilets, clean up cat puke, you name it. I am always way behind. I do find that if I just force myself to sit down and do it, I get inspired. My problem is finding time to do that.
ReplyDeletewait..they puke too!
DeleteI think I actually gasped out loud when I read you were reading . . . . nothing! Yikes! I can't imagine it. Reviews have a nasty way of sneaking up on you. They're my least favorite thing to do and I procrastinate a lot too.
ReplyDeleteactually, I often take breaks of a day or two. then read like crazy!
DeleteYou are a champion procrastinator! It's gotten so I have to be in the right mood to write reviews.
ReplyDeleteI'm having a bit of a review block too. But once I start writing something it gets a lot easier, but I'm still behind with them!
ReplyDeleteI wonder sometimes if we put too much pressure on ourselves about the reviews. Maybe we all need to follow Nise's (Under the Boardwalk) plan and do a short paragraph. I'm trying really hard to just write what occurs to me and also use the summary written by the author or publicist. And if that is a single paragraph - fine. If it's 4 paragraphs - fine. Why reinvent the wheel? I know at one point I thought it was more "professional" to write one's own summary. Sheesh! Who cares? LOL
ReplyDeletea good point..I guess I just wonder if someone has already read a review elsewhere, do hey want to read the same summery, or my topnotch, clever take? Or at least something different...lol
DeleteBTW, my taxes are done and filed!
If it makes you feel any better, I have 18 reviews still to write! 18!!! The sheer number just boggles my mind.
