Musing Monday...Wishing List...Part III....

Seems someone is now interested in what is on our wishlists from last week, or so says this week's question from Just One More Page...

Today’s MUSING MONDAYS post is about books on your wishlist…

Last week we talked about keeping a wishlist. Why not pull out that list and show us some of the books you’ve been eyeing off?

As I said last week, I have a wish list on Library Thing but it will be very hard to show you some of the books on it. Because as of the moment, I only have one book on my wishlist.

I had two, Evil at Heart and Her Fearful Symmetry but then I got Her Fearful Symmetry from the library and am reading it now, so that just leaves the one sad book. That is just pitiful, isn't it. How can a book lover have only one book on their wishlist?

Well, it may be because I have piles and piles, towering, imaginary cat threatening towers of books, hither and yon, upstairs and downstairs. See, where books are concerned, I have zero aptitude for delayed gratification. Which is unusual for me. Other purchases, I can mull over for weeks, months...years. Thinking if I really want to buy it, comparing different items, checking prices. But I hear or read about an interesting sounding book and I am off in search of it. Ideally, a used copy from Amazon Marketplace. If there is a very good copy, especially a hardcover copy for some unidentified reason, it is just too, too, easy to hit that "Buy Now with One-Click" button. Way too easy.

If it is a new book, I try that newly rediscovered resource of the library. Amazing...even if it is not out yet, I can put myself on the list for it...and it seems to be a short list usually...amuse myself with others books and soon they will call that it is in, just waiting for me. But the library is a dangerous place. They are still selling those books as one steps off the elevator, before you even get into the library, for just 25 or 50 cents. I went to pick up one book and can home with three.
Twice.
Now you may start to see the problem with me and books.

Have you ever seen that TV show Hoarders? It is about people that hoard all sorts of junk, Collyer Brothers level hoarding. I saw it for the first time yesterday and I had a dream, a nightmare, about it last night. But it was my house and it was ALL BOOKS! Thousand and thousands of books. Of course, it was just a dream and my piles actually only take up a few square feet but I really have to consider using that BookMooch or PaperBackSwap or having a lot more giveaways.

  1. I do the same thing! If I ever go somewhere that sells books (cheap or not), I always end up getting more than what I had planned--I have so many unread books at home, and yet I want more! A majority of the time, though, I wait until the book is about 75 cents online, and then I buy it. :)

    Thanks for stopping by!

  3. Dawn, I am happy my 'illness' is shared by so many...lol

Bluestocking, Evil at Heart will no doubt be ominous, the third in a series of creepy books by Chelsea Cain. But I love them!

Bandit, be patient...even though there was no Bandit day last week, if you noticed. :-O

  4. I've never heard of the show Hoarders before, but perhaps I should start watching it to scare myself straight! Then again, I might end up using it for the opposite reason--"Well, I'm not as bad as *them*..."

  8. I just have to tease you a little bit--if you had a kindle you could hoard as many books as you wanted *hehehehehe* :)

  9. I only posted about 5 of my wishlist books, but I didn't have room to list all of them :)

I'm definitely a book hoarder, but I don't want to be cured of it! LOL

  12. Ha! If you love to read, book hoarding just seems to go with the territory. Tomorrow is the library $3 a bag sale and I am going (again!) but I have promised myself to limit the buying frenzy. We'll see what happens. My best friend of 55 years is coming to visit soon and I told her to take some books with her when she leaves. Little does she know it is a whole entire bookcase. Good way to get rid of a lot at one fell swoop. We are taking a bunch up to Plymouth next month. Should I toss some out on I95 when we zip through NJ?

  13. Yes, I have seen Hoarders. My segment is right after yours because I am a knitter and hoard yarn too. Here's my musing

I don't have many on the wish list either. I want them all!

  14. Diane...yes, I must check the library for Evil at Heart. The problem is, the library wants the book back, and by a certain date!

Kaye, I am too far from 95...now if you were going up the Parkway...

Jenny, I am happy I only have one obsession. lol

  16. I know what you mean about having a problem with delayed gratification! I book-shop constantly and it's a real effort to hold myself back. The worst is when I go into a really big, warehouse-like indie and find things that I didn't think of before and buy them. Bookmooch is helping me pace myself a little bit, but it also feeds the addiction. Oy. As my friend once said, "mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be bookworms."

  17. I have a lot of books all over the place too. When it comes to buying though I always check my library first. although lately my library has been lacking in quality books. meh. I guess that's what interlibrary loan is for. If I really can't wait I either look through the thrift stores here and if not, then I'll buy it. Buying full price is last resort for me.

  18. As long as you can still walk through your home, sleep on your bed, eat at your dining table and sit on your couch you're okay....at least it looks to me like the hoarding becomes a real problem when it takes over your home completely. Books are great for hoarding because you can stack them and fir many even in small places.

I'm not yet a book hoarder though so check back with me same time next year and we'll see if I think differently!

So Caite, how many books do you really have?!

  19. Vicki...you will notice the hoarders on that shop never see they have a problem either. ;-)

Marie, there are worse things they could be. Non-readers for example.

okbolover..yes, full retail is painful. not unheard of, but painful.

Amy, only about 1200 at the moment. which seems like a fair amount until you realize there are people on Library Thing that have 10,000-20,000-30,000 books listed. I wonder about their houses....
