Being as I am in a very weather dependent job, I like to get the National Weather Service Forecast e-mailed to me every day. That also means that I get various alerts and warning and such from them. Storm...flood...wind...winter storm...hurricane...all alerts I have received in the past. But today I got one I never saw before...and it rather freaked me out.
Here is a current Fire Weather Warning for Home (LovelyUnnamedSeShoreTown, NJ) until 7:00pm, Mon Mar 23 2009, from your local National Weather Service office.

Haha! They must have meant to send this out to us Floridians. The whole damn state is on fire right now. If you prefer a nice breeze blowing through your house and open your windows, your house will be filled with smoke in less than 5 minutes. I always wonder at this time of year why everyone seems to find this state so attractive...smoke, Hurricanes, misquitoes, tourists...
ReplyDeleteThis is a pretty standard warning in CO. We have dry conditions, little humidity and can get some large fires during the summer.
ReplyDeleteMove to Podunk, FL and hear the warnings you will get. Not only do we have a weather radio that tells us that about 70 miles north of here, there may be flooding or that tornado warnings are in effect until 5:18 p.m. and you look at the clock and it is 5:14 p.m. We also have reverse 911 where the sheriff's dept calls us on the phone to warn us of all the dangers lurking out there. Last week we were warned not to burn anything outside because it could start an uncontrollable conflagration. At 6 A.M. one morning, it was still pitch dark here because we are on the west coast, the phone rang and the sheriff wanted us to be on the look out for an elderly gentleman who had strayed from home. I couldn't even see my front walk at that hour of the morning never mind someone who left home 4 miles from here 1/2 hour ago. I'm not too sure an elderly person could travel 4 miles in a half hour, but then I am wrong about most things.
ReplyDeleteI guess we in NJ are just spoiled! Although in the summer, the Pinelands often catch fire. I just can't believe it is that dry now..
ReplyDeleteThere are only two good things about Florida...Disney World and my niece (owner of the world's cutest doggie), who goes to college there.
When she comes home for the summer, Florida's wonderfulness will decrease by 50%.
