Santa will have to find his own cookies. These are mine!

Here is what I was up to yesterday, making gingerbread cookies. And then taking pictures of them, for you my dear readers, to view with awe.

Last year was the first time I ever made them, and did just because I had never made them before. It was, that time, a last minute decision and I could not find a gingerbread man shaped cookie cutter, so I drew a template on cardboard, as the following linked recipe suggests, and traced them and cut them out with a sharp knife. This year, I found a cookie cutter and let me tell ya, wow, that is a lot less work...lol

Although actually, I liked the shape of last year's better. Gingerbread Boy has put on a few pounds it seems.

If you find yourself lacking in gingerbread people, here is a very nice recipe that I used from Simply Recipes. In fact, I have found a number of very good recipes there.

That ¼ tsp. of pepper makes all the difference. Don't leave it out. A hint of spiciness...

  1. Your cookies are gorgeous. I made cookies yesterday, too, but they don't look that good.

  2. Yum! My gingerbread man cookie cutter (a metal one) got a little smooshed one year, so now my guys look a little....off. They still taste good, though!

  3. I considered squeezing the cutter to make them a little slimmer..but didn't. Men don't care anyway...now if it had been a gingerbread woman...

Can I interest you in coming over to my place and doing a little baking? Hey, it was worth a shot, right?

  5. gingerbread men are easy. and I just stick their M&M buttons in before I bake them, so they are already half dressed when you take them out of the oven.

  6. Kudos to you! Gingerbread cookies are so time consuming. Yours look terrific. I never would have thought to use M&M's for the buttons. When my kids were little(many moons ago)I used to make these but used raisins for the buttons and eyes.

  7. I thought they were fairly easy...well, compared to a Christmas Cake (fruitcake..with marzipan and royal icing) that takes days..or so it seems.

  9. but where are the gingerbread moose?

  10. I think that I have expressed my doubt that there are actually any such things as moose. I thing it is ploy to lure tourists to the Great White North...where they will see no moose.

But you are correct. There should be gingerbread moose. If there were moose, they would be brown, like gingerbread.
