If you are able to get in front of it from a distance through the grass it's just breathtaking to me. I have been reading your lighthouse posts and I am thoroughly enjoying myself. A great time to start visiting..of course the challenge is to visit them all in the two days but you can do just one or two.
I am thrilled that ones that are not open frequently, like Sea Girt and East Point and Finn Point will all be open. A lighthouse junkie's dream...lol

At some point in the future, I will do a write up on Navesink and I have some pretty good pics. I have read that the architect was a huge chess fan so he made two towers, one to look like a king piece and the other like the queen.caitehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05824538078958999767noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8684061712648858453.post-528205328406942872008-10-10T09:11:00.000-04:002008-10-10T09:11:00.000-04:00Wow, just saw the Navesink lights on the lighthous...Wow, just saw the Navesink lights on the lighthousefriends.com site (couldn't find good pictures on the Navesink website)... Unusual indeed! Looks beautiful - almost like a Scottish castle! I am, however, a total rookie at this - so I guess the best way to learn more is to visit more :-)Sampada Marathehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07300284163714571262noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8684061712648858453.post-55792313097439987482008-10-10T07:45:00.000-04:002008-10-10T07:45:00.000-04:00There is some debate what is even considered a lig...There is some debate what is even considered a lighthouse in the world of lighthouse studies.

Unusual? Well, in NJ maybe the most unusual in..or are...the twin lights in Navesink. And then you have the 'sparkplug' lights in the Delaware Bay, like Brandywine. Or the 'ugly ducklings' like Finn Point...unusual is in the eye of the beholder.caitehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05824538078958999767noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8684061712648858453.post-62377780230852535482008-10-10T00:55:00.000-04:002008-10-10T00:55:00.000-04:00Very beautiful pictures indeed Caite and lovely de...Very beautiful pictures indeed Caite and lovely description! I've never been to any of the NJ lighthouses, but reading your post sure puts it on my list :-) I haven't yet decided what kinds of lighthouses I like... There were a few people fishing on the beach there...they must have covered themselves in that bug-off stuff.
Other than that it was grand!

Glad you liked the pics. I was there, I have the pictures to prove it and you all will read about it in the future. I will admit it is the most unusual one..or should that be 'ones'...in NJ, in my opinion.

As I think I said, from pictures I saw of it, I did not think I would like East Point. Like those BIG towers. But I loved it...and it just occurred to me why!

The area around East Point is very undeveloped, just a few houses on pilings maybe a mile away and it is surrounded by the Bay and the wildlife refuge. All water and marsh...just like it might have been when the lighthouse was built! You would not be surprised to see a big sailing ship pass by. Many others in NJ especially are now in much more developed areas.
